Sarah Carolyn Boyette Lewis

5/14/1942 – 1/28/2015

            Sarah Carolyn Boyette Lewis was the daughter of Gfeorge and Elsie Boyette. Carolyn, as we called herc was the youngest of the children.  There were 3 sisters, Mary, Melba, and Louise, also 2 bothers, George Donald and Delmas.

Carolyn was always very smart from a small child.  In the tenth grade she was honored as best student in school.  She was in Beta Club, Senior play, annual staff, class officer, chief marshal during her junior year, and Valedictorian, her senior year at Kenly High School.  College years, included Atlantic Christian College (now Barton) is where she received her teaching degree and later she went to University of Maryland and received her masters degree.  She taught school in Rocky Mount, North Carolina , Vallejo, Califorina, Jerome, Idaho, and Twin Falls, Idaho.

On April 15, 1971, she married Fred Lewis at the Zion Lutheran Church in Oakland, Califorina.  They spent their Honeymoon in Spain and Greece. They later adopted five Korean children; their girls, Johanna, Elizabeth, and Sarah were all sisters and two boys; Jonathan and Matthew. There were four grandchildren; Christopher, Jonathan, Emily, and Adam.

Carolyn’s hobbies were many including sewing, writing, and cooking. She worked with a YMCA Summer Camp as a director.  She was in the Women’s Missionary League, board secretary and choir.

Carolyn and Fred made two cross country roundtrips in their motor home working on Lutheran Church Mission Projects building churches, schools, and day care centers. They also went on four cruises.

Carolyn enjoyed writing numerous poems nas was beginning to write a book.  Her goal was to write a children’s book. She and her sisters, Mary and Melba, each submitted and had published in the same publication numerous poems that each had written.  The family is assembling for publication numerous poems and articles she has finished.  Carolyn started writing groups in Twin Falls, Idaho and Silver City, New York.  She also had blogs on “Sclew’s Views’

            Carolyn wrote poems about our 1960 class.  She will be missed by Family, friends, and classmates.
