Thank you for choosing the Tobacco Farm Life Museum for your group tour. The Tobacco Farm Life Museum has offered family friendly programming for all ages for over 30 years and provides important information about the history of agriculture in North Carolina.
Our Mission is to “Preserve and Present the History and Heritage of the North Carolina farm community from 1880-1930.” But we don’t stop there; we also present a way of life that continues to inspire the state, nation and world through its demonstration of hard work and innovation.

Hands-on Learning Options
GROUP TOUR PROGRAMMING

At the Tobacco Farm Life Museum visitors will view a 6,000 square foot gallery with permanent and rotating exhibits, seven original and reproduction buildings (including a workshop, packhouse, smokehouse, homestead with a detached kitchen, tobacco barn and one room school house).
A guided tour of the museum gallery and outdoor buildings takes approximately two hours. Tour length may vary based on the size of the group and additional activities. The Museum offers guided group tours the additional activities listed below:

1. 15 minute film on modern day tobacco farming presented by Holland Farms (Free* With group tour admission)

2. On-farm tour (group will need to provide their own transportation to the farm) (Additional $5 per person)
​
3. Hand Dipped Candles (Additional $2 per person)
​
4. Hand Churned Butter (Additional $2 per person)
​
5. Heritage Games (Additional $2 per person)
​
6. Artifact Discovery (Additional $2 per person)
​
7. Use of Picnic Tables (Free *)
​
8. Additional heritage activities and vendors are on-site the second Saturday of the month. Except for December & January, programming may vary. Most activities are free with admission, but some activities may require a minimal fee for participation. Please see our Stepping into the Past Saturday Series Schedule.*

Accessibility
​
The main gallery building and restrooms are accessible for walkers and wheel chairs. Please let us know if your group has any special needs. We can offer guided tours of the gallery only if requested in advance. The grounds currently consist of sand and gravel walkways. On nice days they are accessible for walkers and wheel chairs, however, if the ground is wet it may be more difficult to navigate. Due to our natural environment there are some roots from trees on the grounds. We ask that everyone watch their steps. Some of the original and reproduction buildings have 3-5 steps up to the building entrance.
Group Size

We require a guided tour to consist of at least 10 paying individuals. If you arrive with less than 10 individuals, please understand that we will need to charge you for 10. We try to keep our guided tours to no more than 20 people per group. If you are touring with a group larger than 20 please have the groups divided into small groups upon arrival. We request that if the group consists of students that at least 1 chaperone per 10 students is provided.

Groups between 40-60 individuals will need to include one additional activity to their guided tour (butter churning, candle making, or heritage games) or choose the self guided tour option.
Groups between 60-100 individuals will need to include up to 3 additional activities (butter churning, candle making, and heritage games) or choose the self guided tour option.
** We request that groups larger than 75 individuals are scheduled for two separate days.
**The max number of individuals for guided tours and activities is 125 unless the tour and programming is confirmed with the Executive Director
