Hinnant, Roland
February 6, 1904 - July 1, 1955
Memorial contribution by Beulah Hinnant and children
Son of Henry Ransom (Tobe) Hinnant and Pennie Adella (Della) Hinnant. Married Beulah Ophelia Boyette, February 11, 1926. Father of four children: Rebecca, Jennings, Lois Marie, and Alice Ferrell.
Roland and his wife Beulah and their children lived on and farmed the same family farm in the Buckhorn Community that his parents farmed in the early 1900's. He never had a tractor and he tended his last crop with mules in the early 1950's. His son, Jennings, bought the first tractor for the Hinnant Farm in 1949, upon his return from service in the US Navy.
A tremendous pride in agriculture is evident in Roland's descendants. His son Jennings and grandsons David and Ken continue to farm that land today. These grandsons are outstanding farmers and community workers. This farm is one of the original tour farms for the Tobacco Farm Life Museum of North Carolina.
