Holland, Paul
In Honor of Paul Holland
His wife Jean Baggett Holland made this Honorarium in commemoration of Paul's sixty-eighth birthday.
Paul Holland, born May 7, 1934, is the son of Elmer and Victoria Atkinson Holland. Paul is one of five children. His sisters, after they took their married names, are Shirley H. Edwards, Dorothy H. Watkins, and Inez H. Young. Paul's brother's name is Preston Holland.
All the Holland children grew up on the family farm in eastern Wilson County and attended Rock Ridge School where Paul graduated in 1953. In 1954, Paul began working for the Atlantic Coastline Railroad, retiring from the company in 1976. While he was employed by the railroad, he continued to work with his father -- and later his son Joey — in the operation of the Holland farm until his full retirement in 1981.
On April 5, 1958, Paul married Jean Baggett of Kenly. Paul and Jean established their home in Kenly where Jean taught school. Their two children are Paula Holland Wooten and Joseph "Joey" Hubert Holland. Paul also has three grandchildren; April Jean Holland, Samantha Kaye Holland, and Michael Paul Wooten. Paul is a member of Kenly Missionary Baptist Church where he has served on the finance committee for many years.
Paul is a National Sojourner Shriner and a member of Kenly Masonic Lodge # 257. Paul has also served on the Kenly Town Council. Paul and his family were active in the Tobacco Farm Life Museum's initial organization which utilized the Holland family farm as a host for museum tours. Paul enjoys playing golf with his friends and is a member of the Cardinal Country Club. He also is a good cook and pleases family and friends with grilled chicken at neighborhood events.
