Scott, Elijah
November 21, 1893 - January 14, 1970
Son of Robert L. and Emma Holland Scott
Married Emma Lee Stancil on February 15, 1917
Father of six children: Beulah Mae, Ralph Edward, Linwood Harding, Harrison Elijah, Ruby Lee and Retha.
Elijah Scott was born into a tobacco producing family in Wayne County. He grew up knowing the value of hard work and thrifty living. He farmed all of his life, the majority of the time in Wilson County. His helpers were his family.
He was a member of Upper Black Creek Primitive Baptist Church. His leisure years were spent enjoying fishing, often with his family who had been his partners in earlier days on the family farm.
He, like his father before him, was a producer of fine tobacco. He instilled into his sons a pride in a quality product. His legacy lives on in his grandchildren, three of whom are tobacco farmers and participants in the Tobacco Farm Life Museum.
