Scott, Wanda Ione Barnes

Wanda Ione Barnes Scott
April 4 1920-

Wanda Ione Barnes was born April 4, 1920, the first daughter of Richard Arthur and Glennie Poythress Barnes. Wanda grew up on the family farm in Wilson County, attending Lucama High School and Women's College of the University of North Carolina. She worked as secretary for the James I. Miller Tobacco Company in Wilson until her marriage in October, 1941 to Ralph Edward Scott.

Wanda and Ralph lived and farmed in Wilson County until their retirement. They reared three children: Richard David, Ralph Edward, Jr., and Suzanne on the farm, teaching the lessons of hard work, perseverance, and love of nature through their personal example.

Wanda was an active member of the Kenly United Methodist Church throughout her adult life, holding various positions and participating in church projects and work. Her hobbies, apart from the diligent rearing of her three children, included sewing and other needle work, gardening, and being family support person.

We could always count on mother for that helping hand that makes tasks easier to endure. She gave her best to her family, and she demanded their best from them.

Submitted by her children.
