Snipes, Raymond Edward

Son of James David Snipes and Lillie Edwards Snipes
Raymond Edward Snipes was born in Wayne County and reared in the Princeton community. He was in the first graduating class at Princeton High School in 1922. He graduated from Duke University with a B.A. Degree in 1926. He later earned two Master's Degrees from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, North Carolina. While working on his Masters' degrees at the University of North Carolina, he received an appointment to a teaching assistantship in the English Department.
Mr. Sniper taught in the North Carolina Education System in Robersonville, Snow Hill, Pikeville, Kenly, Princeton, Charles B. Aycock and at Greene Central. He retired in 1970, after forty years in the profession.
Mr. Snipes was very dedicated to the teaching profession. His students always came first with him. He was qualified to teach French, Latin, English, History and Literature, He often tutored students after class and during the summer months. It has been said "If a student does not learn a subject, it is not Mr. Snipe's fault."
The Class of 1950 at Kenly High School was truly one of his favorite classes according to his niece, Phyllis Snipes Edwards, who supplied the information for this memorial.
