Atkinson, C. Marvin & Nellie

Children: Barbara Jeffreys and Evelyn Ellis
Mr. and Mrs. Atkinson lived in the Glendale Community, near Kenly, where Mr .Marvin grew up on the family farm. He graduated from Glendale High School. "Miss" Nellie graduated at the neighboring Micro High School.

Both served their communities and Johnston County through their many activities with their church, schools, sports and politics. Both belonged to the Holly Springs Free Will Baptist Church, where they taught Sunday School. Mr. Marvin was also the church clerk and Miss Nellie was a Ladies Auxiliary member.

Mr. Marvin was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Farm Bureau, Woodmen of the World, Kenly Volunteer Fire Department, the Democratic Party, chairman of the Johnston County ASC Committee and a 4H Club leader. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and baseball as both a player and manager.

Miss Nellie was a devoted wife and mother. She was a member of the Glendale Home Demonstration Club and held county offices in this club as well as the Johnston County Democratic Women. She volunteered with the Red Cross blood drives and at the Tobacco Farm Life Museum. She enjoyed sewing, needlework, gardening and fishing.
