Bailey, Tyra Clingman

Tyra Clingman Bailey, son of William Turner Bailey and Ida Richardson Bailey, was born in Kenly in 1890. He attended Tennessee Military Institute and the University of North Carolina. There afterwards, he opened Bailey Auto Company, which was the first Ford agency in Kenly.

After serving in France in World War I, he married Marguerite Foege of Richmond, Virginia. They lived in Kenly and Wilson where a daughter was born, Judith Matthews Bailey. Later he moved his family to Richmond, Virginia, and worked for John Jr. Cigar manufacturers, and after that, Benjamin T. Crump, specializing in automobile parts.

In February, 1935, he died of pneumonia on a business trip in Wilmington, North Carolina.
